Ángel Villegas Fernández

Breeding for Resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses
Legume breeding for resistance to diseases. I have mainly focused on faba bean, studying several pathogens, especially Botrytis fabae. My work covers from the identification of sources of resistance, through the characterisation of the interaction plant/pathogen, to the obtention of varieties presenting various degrees of resistance. This implies the integration of different research methods, such as field trials, assays under controlled conditions or the employment of molecular tools.
