Regional Field Crop Research Center of Beja – Tunisia (CRRGC)
CRRGC is an autonomous government institution which depends on the Institution of Research and Higher Agricultural Education (IRESA) within the Ministry of Agriculture. The main activities are related to agricultural researche. In collaboration with the National Institute of Agronomic Research of Tunisia and other national institution, CRRGC plan and execute all research programs and experimentations related to field crop breeding and production systems especially cereals and grain legumes in order to develop new varieties resistant/tolerant to the main biotic and abiotic constraints. To achieve its scientific attribution CRRGC is equipped by various facilities such laboratory, greenhouses and 4 agricultural experimental research stations with specific clinical fields for different constraints (Orobanche foetida, Ascochyta, fusarium wilt, rust …) located in the different and main field crop production zones.

Background: Plant Breeding, Plant Stress Physiology, plant biology

Research areas:

- Faba bean (Vicia faba) and Chickpea (Cicier arietinum) breeding: screening and selection of new varieties resistant/tolerant to main biotic (Orobanche, Ascochyta, botrytis, rust, fusarium wilt …) and abiotic (drought, salt stress) stresses

- Study and development of different strategies (cultural, chemical, biological, development of new resistant varieties) to control parasitic plants and specially Orobanche spp. on grain legumes.

- Host-Parasite interaction
