Genetic improvement of annual oil crops
The general objective of the group is the development and transfer to the private sector of new plant material of annual oilseed species with significant improvements in agronomic and quality traits. They include a wide range of quality traits such as fatty acids, glucosinolates, minerals, tocopherols, and phytosterols for various food, industrial and energy uses, as well as resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses and potential for biofumigation. In parallel, the development and application of selection technologies applied to plant breeding, including new methods of quality component analysis, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) technology, molecular markers, and genomic approaches, are being addressed.
