The Drought Impact Assessment Platform: methodology, development and applications
More information: Worldwide, the increasing frequency and severity of drought events pose a significant threat to agricultural production, water resources, and food security. While monitoring and early warning systems have advanced, impact assessments have received less attention, despite their crucial role in enhancing the resilience and adaptation of agroecosystems to drought. To address this gap, FAO has developed a new tool for evaluating drought impacts on crop and water productivity.
The Drought Impact Assessment Platform (d-iap) is a web-based platform that integrates advanced crop modeling and comprehensive datasets to provide robust assessments of drought impacts under both present and future climate scenarios.
The online launch event, which will be held on 12 March 2025, aims to introduce the Drought Impact Assessment Platform (d-iap) and showcase its functionalities in assessing drought impacts to support agricultural planning and decision-making and strengthening resilience-building.
