El pasado miércoles se celebró el Seminario “Feeding the Future: Digital Tools for a Food-Secure World: AI infused data driven solutions for a food secure future” a cargo de los ponentes Dr. Andries Potgieter, Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) University of Queensland y el Prof. Scott Chapman, School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability, University of Queensland, and Affiliate Professor of QAAFI.

The presentation focused on leveraging digital tools and artificial intelligence to enhance global food security and address agricultural challenges. They highlight the need for increased crop productivity to meet future food demands and discuss how early detection of pests, weeds, and diseases through remote sensing can prevent crop losses. Additionally, the presentations showcase advanced data-driven approaches, such as machine learning models and satellite imagery, for optimizing agricultural inputs, improving yield forecasting, and managing climate risks. The overarching goal is to integrate these digital innovations into farming practices to build a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector. The presentation also addressed insights around data analytics from phenomics through to use of ML models, comprising aspects related to his role as a UQ Node leader for AAGI (Analytics for the Australian Grains Industry) and APPN (Australian Plant Phenomics Network). One common theme of interest focuses on training ML models on synthetic datasets that have been generated by geometric, physical and/or biophysical models. Recent results training ML models on synthetic data, testing them on real data, or preferably through domain adaptation on real data were discussed.
